Sickness for the Glory of God

Preview: Christ healed the sick as a part of His ministry.


Scripture Reading: II Kings 5:1-14.

Memory Verse: Proverbs 16:19.

1. What lesson does the foregoing Scripture Reading and Memory Verse teach us about humility and healing?
Note: In this story we see the captain of the host of Syria being humbled as a result of his illness; also the King of Israel was reminded that the God of Israel and His servant Elisha were more powerful than he.
2. What was the result of this lesson? II Kings 5:15-19.
Note: Not only did Naaman realize that there was no God but Jehovah, he also repented and sought forgiveness for having ever worshipped false Gods.
3. Was Lazarus’ sickness and death for the glory of God? John 11:1-4 & John 11:11-15.
4. What affect did it have on some of the unbelievers? John 11:39-45.
5. What did Jesus say about the blind man’s affliction? John 9:1-7.
6. What affect did this have on the man who was healed? John 9:35-38.
Note: Because of fear, the parents of this young man would not acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, but their son, who was healed, accepted Him as Lord of his life.
7. What was the purpose of Paul’s affliction? II Corinthians 12:6-9.
8. What was Paul’s attitude concerning his affliction? II Corinthians 12:10.
Note: God does not always remove our sicknesses and afflictions. Sometimes we can glorify Him more humbly with them.
9. How can our weakness work to His Glory? II Corinthians 13:4 & II Corinthians 4:14-16.
Note: Our faith and hope must be in the power and judgment of God.
10. What does God require of all of His people? Micah 6:8.
Note: God knows our heart and He knows what is necessary to keep us in a spirit of mercy, justice, and humility. Sometimes this is an affliction that He does not choose to remove. Let us praise Him in all things!
